When do entries close?
Entries close at 18:00 on Sunday 6th May 2018. However, they could close sooner should the event sell out.
Where can I find a start list?
We will publish a start list on the event page of our website shortly after entries have closed.
When do I get the race info pack?
The race info pack will be emailed to all competitors soon after entries close, either the Sunday or following Monday.
I can no longer race and need to withdraw, what should I do?
Ok, this is fine but you need to follow the withdrawal policy. You’ll receive race credit; the value will depend on when you withdraw in relation to the event date.
Can I swap between distances?
This is no problem providing the other race has space, if changing to the longer distance you’ll need to pay for the additional entry fee. Just contact team@monsterracing.net.
When do I need to register and rack?
Registration will be on both Saturday and Sunday….
Saturday registration only 14:00 – 16:30, there is no racking.
Sunday registration 04:30 – 06:45. Transition will be open 04:30 – 07:15 for racking. The race brief will be at 07:15. Race start is 07:30.
Where can I find maps?
Check out the swim map, bike map and the run map, you’ll do 2 laps. You can export these maps to your GPS device using the export link in the route info box.
What is the profile of the course?
Click on the above link to the map. Underneath the map you’ll see the profile of the route.
What is the lake temperature and do I need a wetsuit?
In previous years the temperature has meant that wetsuits have been optional. BUT that is no guarantee this will be the case this year. Like us on Facebook as we’ll post updates on there closer to the event with the water temperature. If you need to hire a wetsuit, take a look at our event partner Zone3.
Can I wear gloves / boots in the swim?
The race is run under BTF rules – Thermal gloves and boots are not permitted unless an exception request has been applied for. A medical note stating the reason must be submitted to us and the Technical Official on the day of the event.
Is it possible to swim in the lake ahead of the race?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The lake does not permit swimming outside of the organised event.
Will it be a mass start or swim waves?
This event will be a mass start but the lake is big enough to accommodate a mass start without people being swam over – just position yourself where you feel comfy.
Are there any cut offs?
No, we aim to make this event fun and friendly for all. There is no time pressure as we have the middle distance on at the same time.
What nutrition is on course?
There is one aid station on the bike loop, there will be 500ml bottles of water and Hammer gels.
There is one aid station on the run lap, there will be water and Hammer Heed in cups and Hammer gels.
Can I camp and do I need to book?
Camping is available on site, with use of the toilets. Be aware this is not usually a campsite and so there are no electric hook ups. To camp all we ask is for a donation to our designated charity, CamSAR (they provide vital safety cover on race day). Sorry but no BBQ’s or smoking, any breach will jeopardise future events. BBQ = DQ from race and you will be asked to leave the venue. Be careful when using camping stoves, raise them off the ground. You do not need to book. Just turn up, make your donation and pitch your tent.
Is there a hotel nearby?
Yes, the Dragonfly is literally 1 minute from Race HQ. We have arranged a special room only rate of £69 per night. Call 01733 564240 to book and quote Monster Racing.
My family / friends are coming to support, what is there to entertain them?
Race HQ is based in a park, there is a pub with a kids play area. The swim and run laps are easily watched and your supporters could drive out to the bike loop to watch you.
Do I get a medal?
Yes and a tech t, both are cool!!
Where can I find the results?
You can print out your result at the end of the event, look out for the Jaguar Timing tent. All results will be emailed to you as soon as we have them from the chip timing company and they will be loaded onto our website in due course.
Where are the official event photos?
Ian-Green Photography has been our event photographer in previous years. All photos from previous events are shown on Flickr. A link to the official photos for 2018 will be sent with the results, plus like us on Facebook as we’ll post an update on there once the photos are live.
